Gantry Crane Manufacturers
Bespoke gantry crane systems are engineered for freestanding, outdoor and space-constrained lifting where a full overhead runway isn't practical.
We design and build systems for sites where a full overhead runway isn’t practical or available. A strong choice where there’s no suitable runway to hang from, where lifting needs to happen outdoors, or where a site needs a lifting solution that can be relocated rather than built in; depending on configuration, a gantry crane can be entirely self-supporting on its own floor-mounted legs, or share some of that support with the building structure — see the configurations below for how this varies.
We supply Safe Working Loads (SWL) up to 10 tonnes and spans up to 40 metres, with every system engineered around three things: the load to be lifted, the span and height of lift required, and how the site itself will support or constrain the structure. A full site survey is carried out before manufacture.
Gantry Crane Benefits
- Increases lifting productivity and reduces manual handling, helping save time and labour costs
- Avoids the need for a full overhead runway built into your building
- Available as fixed, semi-supported or fully portable, depending on site permanence
- Knockdown construction allows for easier transport, erection, dismantling and compact storage
Configurations
We offer six different configurations, each suited to different site and lifting requirements:
Full Gantry Cranes
Both legs run on floor-mounted rails or wheels, making the crane entirely self-supporting and independent of the building structure. This is the configuration to choose where there's no suitable runway steelwork to hang from, or where lifting needs to take place outdoors.
Semi-Gantry Cranes
One leg runs on a ground-level rail while the other travels along an elevated runway, typically fixed to an existing building line. This combines some of the stability of a full gantry with reduced steelwork, making it a more space- and cost-efficient option where the building can support one side of the load.
Portable Gantry Cranes
Wheeled or castor-mounted A-frame systems that move to the lift rather than requiring the work to come to a fixed crane. Capacities are lower than fixed installations, but no foundations or structural installation are needed, so a portable gantry can be in use far sooner than a permanent system.
Fixed Gantry Cranes
A-frame or goal-post supported systems installed in a permanent location. Fixed systems offer greater stability and support higher lifting capacities than their portable counterparts, making them suited to regular, heavier-duty lifting in one location.
Single Girder Gantry Cranes
Featuring one main bridge beam, single girder construction is the more cost-effective option. Well suited to lighter and medium-duty applications.
Double Girder Gantry Cranes
Featuring two parallel bridge beams, double girder construction provides greater capacity and structural stability, and can typically offer a greater hook height where heavier-duty lifting is required.
Structural Design Options
Beyond how a gantry crane is supported and where it travels, the way it’s built also shapes how well it fits a given site.
A-Frame & Goal-Post Construction
Gantry crane manufacturers will typically build in one of two structural forms; A-frame, with angled supporting legs, or goal-post, with vertical legs. The choice will affect both footprint and stability, depending on site layout.
Knockdown Construction
Built to be assembled and dismantled on site rather than delivered as one welded structure, knockdown construction allows a gantry crane to be transported, relocated and put into compact storage far more easily than a fixed installation, offering a genuine advantage where a site's lifting needs change over time.
Cantilever Extensions
Single or double cantilever bridge extensions allow the trolley and hook to travel beyond the supporting legs, extending the usable lifting area past the rail centres for loading and unloading outside the crane's own footprint.
Safety & Compliance
LOLER Certification
Covered by full LOLER certification, ongoing inspection and servicing is available to keep equipment compliant and operating safely. See our LOLER inspection and servicing page.
Site Assessment & Engineering
Every system is engineered around a full site assessment covering load characteristics, available space, installation constraints and lifting frequency to ensure the crane fits the site.
As an experienced gantry crane manufacturer, we engineer every system to your specific site and lifting requirements. We also provide gantry crane repairs and maintenance.
